I love a little bit of business transparency, and keep nerding out on Rob Meronek's data dumps over at Skatepark of Tampa. This one's a fun one: Meronek cross referenced skateboard deck sales data from the SPoT shop over the last 7 years with the birthdays from customer profiles and asked, How Old Are The People Supporting The Sketchy Skateboard Industry?
No huge surprises: The average age of kids buying Termite skateboards is 11 (I would have guessed even younger) and the average age of old guys buying Powell skateboards is 28 (I might have guessed even older, but it's still seven years older than the guys buying Dogtown decks), but it's still a fun data dump nonetheless. By these measures, I mostly buy skateboards like a 17 (5Boro) 18 (Black Label) or 19 (Krooked) year-old. I can live with that.
