ASP #1 Mick Fanning is out, after falling to wildcard local boy Dane Reynolds here at the 2007 Boost Mobile Pro.  Reynolds began his assault on the world title favorite not 30 seconds into the heat, with a massive right-hander that earned him a 9.93, the highest score of the whole event.  After that, the ASP rookie continued to surf like he had nothing to lose, throwing massive cutbacks and aerial maneuvers that in the end were enough to hold off White Lightning in what can only be described as a “dope upset.”    
Of the ASP top five, only two remain here, Andy Irons and Kelly Slater.  Slater knocked off another local wildcard, Rob Machado, by a score of 14.67, with technical and tactical surfing.  Andy Irons has yet to run his late afternoon heat against wildcard South African Jordy Smith.  Slater and Irons can dramatically improve their chances to repeat as world titleholders with wins here, with Parkinson (#5), Burrow (#2) and Fanning out.  
Also falling today was defending champion Bede Durbidge and Bruce Irons.
