Candy Harris of Billabong once thought; Lets take our surf fashion and lifestyle and wrap it into a concert charity event! Design for Humanity was born. This year the charity honors went to Invisible Children (www.invisiblechildren.com ). The charity started from a group of young wanna-be filmmakers in search of a story.
A trip to Africa (Northern Uganda) proved to unveil a major humanitarian issue. A brutal war has been going on for 26 years and some 60,000 kids have been forced to become solders (8-15 years old.) These kids have literally been abducted and brainwashed into killing machines. Recently President Obama passed a bill that will bring more aid and attention to this horrific issue its up for congress to review next.
This year s event at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. We were on the back lot, which revealed a scene of downtown New York! It was simply amazing. It was like we had the biggest block party ever with all your friends and all of their friends - music, drinks and some pretty sweet non-hollywood people throwing hugs.
This event has such a great vibe and beautiful art. You can dance, watch a bikini fashion shoot, and wonder where you were all at the same time. I didn t want it to be over before it was over! Chris Palmer of ESPN Magazine rolled out to celebrate life.
There were some great insta-best friend experiences and eye candy to savor. The night started by hosting on the red carpet where I meet some amazing athletes and performers.
It was great to ask people What are you most grateful for today and if they would like to share a hug. The best was a prayer for the Children of Uganda with Roxy and the one big rapper (forgetting his name) on the red carpet.
Yea, on camera. The fashion show was all time once again .loved it. It was A+ all around. Ran into some ruling people like wakeboarder Jeff Weatherall Pat Parnel Ian Votteri..On and On I danced to Lady GaGa like it was 1999 at one point yea that was good fun.
Thanks to Shawn Hughes for all of her help along with Amy Sorensen and everyone at Billabong for getting me in the door!
Stay connected and ee you there next year.
