3:10 to Yuna. Er Yuma. Right not an old western that was remade back in '07, Yuna is a Malaysian singer-songwriter who's debut record, Decorate, came out in March. Now represented by Fader Label based in New York, Yuna started her music career as a solo artist on MySpace, playing guitar and singing in both English and Malaysian. Featured here is her cover of Nirvana's 'Come As You Are', which - don't know if it's the pain-filled voice or repetitive synthy keys, but completely reminds me of Bright Eyes' 'Lover I Don't Have to Love'.
Yuna doesn't have a ton of live dates coming up, but if you're in the LA area you can check her out at the The Hotel Cafe next week. The Hotel Cafe is a live music venue located off an alley on Cahuenga Blvd in Hollywood known for helping establish the careers of new musicians (like Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson). Formerly a coffee shop with a reputation for a great open mic, The Hotel Cafe now consists of the venue, a record label and Sunset Junction, a music festival and street fair August 27 & 28th. Headlining the event this year, Butch Walker & the Black Widows.
