Foster the PeopleThe debut album from LA natives Foster the People is out today, available on iTunes, and additionally at Amazon.com. I first checked these guys out back in January, when they had a residency at Costa Mesa s Detroit Bar, playing free shows every Monday for the entire month. Not having a job, or much to do on a Monday night, I went back to back Mondays. The first time I saw them, maybe 40 people were there. The following Monday, about 200. What I didn t know was in between my two visits, a little radio station called K-Roq started playing their song Pumped Up Kicks .
Not only are they one of my new favorite bands, but some credit needs to be given to these guys for how they approached the music business. Releasing a strong 3 song EP just this past January, they played an abundant number of live (and quite a few free) shows, got a small following and shortly after some radio play. Before their full-length record even came out, they sold out their US tour and played at the renowned SXSW music festival.
Tonight you can catch Foster the People on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and after that they have busy schedule headlining their tour, and playing a bunch of free in-store concerts at various record stores. You can find the list of appearances on their site, FosterthePeople.com. While it's hard to get tickets to their independent shows, fortunately Foster the People is also playing numerous festivals across the country this summer, including K-Roc s Weenie Roast and Chicago s Lollapalooza.
Check out their appearance on Fuel TV's The Daily Habit:
