Today I got the chance to talk to Aaron Bruno, who's the founder of Red Bull Records-backed Awolnation. The artist is currently blowing up the Billboard music charts, rounding out the top 5 of the Billboard Top Alternative Songs list right up there with none other than music heavyweights Blink182, RHCP, Foo Fighters and, damn, newbies Foster the People. The song giving music veterans a run for their money is 'Sail', but the whole album 'Megalithic Symphony' is a Must Listen. Tonight Awolnation will be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, airing at midnight EST. Check out a little bit of our conversation with Aaron, and tune in later this week for the full interview where he talks about the music festival circuit, being an underdog (and liking it) and now.. selling out music venues. Are you from LA?
Well I’m from the general area of Los Angeles but I grew up in the suburbs north of Hollywood, about 32 miles north on the 101 in a town called Thousand Oaks. I spent most of my childhood on the coastline surfing.. it was a 20 minute drive so most of the time I was at the beach growing up.
So you're a veteran surfer?
Yeah I’m actually doing that right now as we’re talking. Just trying to find the right place to surf today.
I'm jealous.. what beach are you headed to?
Probably Zuma because it’s a little bit smaller today and Zuma’s got a little push to it. And it’s a beautiful, beautiful sunny day. We’re doing Jimmy Kimmel tonight which is always kind of a stressful thing, so I thought it’d be nice to catch a few waves before I just loose my mind you know?
Yeah we will actually be there tonight checking it out; looking forward to it for sure.
Oh cool, cool.. yeah the more the merrier.
