Tuesday night was a typical October evening in New England (read: cold and rainy), but inside a former gas station-turned-hip-urban-party-space on Boylston Street, it was warm and just bright enough to necessitate some sunglasses. Oakley's last stop of the Sunglasses at Night tour was in town.

For this stop in the tour, Oakley partnered with students from the New England Art Institute, giving them balnk pairs of Hijinx sunglasses to decorate as they pleased. The results were very cool. Detailed paint jobs covered the thin arms of the sunglasses. A few looked almost like production pairs and one appeared to be covered in some sort of candy. The glasses were judged by a resident artist and the winning pair went home with 1500 dollars.

The gas station is the latest utility building in the city to transform into a hang out spot and it is pretty darn rad. Big open space, huge garage doors, decidedly urban, yet private feel. Plus, no liquor license means "private parties" with an open bar (and well lubricated party guests due to Oakley and Red Bull's generous donation of vodka and cheap beer). It was like a classy cocktail party with 50 of your closest friends from New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Of course, it wasn't long before the delicate balance of socially acceptable behavior and blood alcohol level was tipped in the favor of Coors Light. Boxes of thirty racks disappeared, the bathroom line outside was got longer, and an unnamed tall and humorous individual broke out the toilet paper, covering the car of a shorter, but equally humorous individual. The rear garage door was opened so beer could be sprayed outside and I think it was around this time that people started to leave.

Good drinks, good friends and good things to look at. Thanks to Oakley for playing host. And thank you to Aaron Blatt for the title of this blog, which summed up the night, and Jon Pineau, who put all us to shame with his Red Bull vodka chugging skills. Also, check out more of Natty's photography here. It's good.

Totino\'s Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes - Road to the 2010 US Open of Snowboarding. It's been an interesting year for Totino's team riders Danny Davis and Mason Aguirre. After starting strong in the Fall and early season, with great contest results at the Totino's Open in Breckenridge, both riders suffered injuries. Danny is out for the year, but Mason recently came back and plans to throw down at next week's US Open of Snowboarding in Stratton, VT.
