Stewart and Dungy - head to head.I was excited to see the first Supercross race of the year with all the changes and new talent coming up through the ranks. This year A-1 was televised live on SPEED Channel and it was an exciting race in the premiere 450 class.

Jeremy McGrath hooked me up with a pass to the Knotthole Club where all the celebrities go and mingle. Thanks MC!!! It was fun to see some people and bro down just a little. Renner was up there gushing his love for his newborn girl Ken Block was up there with his girls Deegan with his little boy who is just the coolest dude ever. I ended up roaming around and shooting a couple different angels of the track for fun.

Shooting Supercross really well is difficult in general and even more so from the stands. I had my 300mm 2.8 money lens on so that helped to make it worthy for a few images I am glad to share.

Anaheim - a perfect spot to kick off the season.

I would have to say just about everyone was surprised by the 450 class rookie Ryan Dungy. The clean-cut kid has been ripping but I have never seen him put in a ride like this. After a an aggressive start to the main event, Chad Reed was out with broken spokes in his front wheel and Dungy was out front with the champion James Stewart on his tail.

The battle for second was healthy with about five guys pushing hard. It was shocking to see that Dungy did not fade and actually pulled a gap on Stewart about three-quarters through the race.

Then, with about two laps to go, it got really good. Stewart dug deep and caught Dungy to pass him on the last lap. Dungy was right there to pass him back with three corners to go but had a little bobble and it was over.

Stewart and Dungy were neck and neck for a bit.
James claimed the victory off the finish line jump in perfect synch with the flame throwers on each side of him! What a great finish to the season opener. I was pumped and inspired!!

The whole stadium was on their feet and screaming. It was awesome to see the vet Kevin Wyndam get on the box for third after passing one of my other favorite SX rider Andrew Short.

Supercross demands so much of the racers and the speed they are going these days is insane. My good buddy Nate Adams (FMX Star) was just a fraction off of qualifying for the main event but will be going to Phoenix next week to redeem himself. It s been his longtime dream to make a main event at Supercross and I m excited for him to pull it off and finish safely.
