The Athlete of the Year award is given to one athlete whom judges from all disciplines (skate, BMX, FMX) believe had the best performance overall in the tour. So, it can really be given to anyone. Not just the points leader... which Adams was. Adams scored 475 points out of a possible total of 500. He placed first in all but one contest, the Portland stop where Adam Jones nabbed the top spot. Jones was the only man with cajones big enough to challenge Adams all year and ended the season with a total of 276 points. Mike Mason was the only other rider to come close to Adams in the race for the Dew Cup and finished the Tour with 257 points.
Nate Adams was shocked to receive the prestigious award. "Athlete of the year was a total surprise,'' he said. "I'm pumped. This is such an honor, and to end the season with a win on such a high note, I couldn't be more satisfied with my year.''
Year-end standings for the Dew Tour looked something like this:
1st     Nate Adams        475
2nd    Adam Jones       276
3rd    Mike Mason       257
4th    Jeremy Lusk       256
5th    Todd Potter       246
6th    Jeremy Stenberg    217
7th    Wiley Fullmer       193
8th    Myles Richmond    186
9th    Taka Higashino      180
10th    Beau Bamburg      178
