Sponsoring the only World Tour event on the U.S. mainland for the last seven years, Boost Mobile has relinquished its license of the Lower Trestles event, with Hurley taking over its first sole sponsorship of an ASP World Tour event.

“The Board of ASP International was approached by Boost Mobile last week to request the transfer of their license to Hurley,” said ASP CEO Brodie Carr. “The ASP Board unanimously approved the transfer. Hurley has been supporting the Boost Mobile Pro for a number of years now and the transfer of the license with the associated naming rights was an easy decision for us.”

Hurley will become the sole sponsor when the ASP World Tour stops in San Clemente September 11th – 20th, 2009. While Bob Hurley can annoy most people in the surf scene, the industry will have no choice but to continue to associate with the former owner of Hurley (which has been owned by Nike since ‘02 but still run by Bob).

It remains to be seen if this is the first step towards Boost Mobile moving away from the action sports industry, which like most industries is taking heavy financial losses during the recession.
