Another big upset: South African wildcard Jordy Smith just
knocked off A.I.  The hype over the
wildcards has proved to be quite justified.  Jordy launched some huge aerials to take out A.I., who just
couldn’t find the right wave this afternoon. 

When you’re a wildcard winner, you take time to stop and
sign autographs for the kiddies as soon as you get out of the water.  When you’re in the ASP top five and you
lose before the finals, you run to the athlete tent with not a word to
anyone.  Way to go Jordy, see you
in Round 4.
