You will certainly brush shoulders with a celebrity or two and catch up on the town gossip with the shop kids. Boasting 4000 sq feet. 2 floor the “Beach” has everything you could ask for. Their creed is to  live, love and breathe the Hamptons – supporting numerous local charities and helping people of all ages and abilities get outdoors and get active. Mollusk Surf Shop in Brooklyn NY

Williamsburg is the home of the East Cost hipster. The NY extension of the California based surf shop fits the neighborhood like a glove. Don’t’ expect a friendly hello when you walk through the doors into the small shop, but do expect quality new and used surfboards, perfectly selected apparel and lots of fun unexpected creative trinkets.

Rough & Tumble

FTW

Bobby Vaughn, a Santa Cruz, CA, native and co-founder of the Von Dutch clothing line, opened FTW less than a block from the beach, bringing gangster and surfing together under one roof.  Mr. Vaughn’s ideal surfer is fearless, tattooed and rides an expensive top-of-the-line surfboard decorated with gang tags. His shop exudes tough-surfer chic, from its graffiti-covered surfboards and skateboards to the wall murals in urban spray-can style.

Only a few months into his endeavor, FTW was already a local hangout for a slew of young badass surf hopefuls. Unlike some of its competitors, the store sells first-rate boards made in Australia and other high-quality merch (read: a little expensive, but worth the price).

Down Home & Broken In

Boarders in Rockaway, NY

Tucked off of Rockaway Beach Blvd and 92nd street, this small shop is a wonderful gem in the rough of Rockaway. The mood is welcoming and the owner is peachy sweet. They cater to the die hard NYC’ers by providing east coast tailored boards that are unique to the region and renting lockers in the back for surfboard storage.  Out of towners will get a great dose of the New york Surf scene and can rent surfboards and wetsuits for a very reasonable price. Surfboard rentals for half a day (4 hours) is a measly $35.00 Full day will run you $50.00. Wetsuit rentals are $5.00 with board rental; $10.00 without.

Religion Surf & Skate in Shirley, NY

Religion as its known to the locals, has been the respite for many a young surfer while under its original ownership. Sold in 2008, the new owners have expanded their reach into skate, so it is safe to assume that the vibe at the shop has even more flavor.

One thing is for certain, when heading the Smittie’s for quick surf, this is the only shop on the stretch to hit.

Bunger Surf Shop in Babylon NY

Located in family hometown of BNQT’s own Editorial Director, Bunger Surf Shop is one of the oldest family owned and operated surf shops in the USA. Swinging boards since 1962 Bunger Surf Shop has been providing surfers will all the latest and greatest surf necessities. Opened in 1996, Air and Speed was started by Stuart and Catherine Foley one cold winter in Montauk. Their goal was to provide the growing surf culture in the Montauk community. It was a humble beginning that soon grew into a thriving business that was moved to its current Montauk Highway location in the summer of 2005. Coming up on 15th year in business, Air and Speed is now not only popular with notoriously faithful locals, but all of those who choose to visit Montauk during the summer months. You will find most of the Foley family working day in and day out and in the summer you can get surf lessons from the Foley boys, who are born local Montauk rippers.
